Lee Wood - FW 2016/2017 collection
Lee Wood, the winner of “WHO IS ON NEXT? DONNA” 2015 - the scouting project conceived and developed by Altaroma in collaboration with Vogue Italia – has presented his FW 2016/2017 collection to the international public at AltaRoma
Vellamo, the goddess of water, lakes and seas in Finnish mythology, is the deity who listens to the prayers of fishermen and sailors and controls the wind, storms and tides. This is the jumping-off point that the designer of the L72 brand uses to present a perfect mix and match of emotion and creativity. This study is based on a lyrical analysis conducted by Lee Wood, combined with a detailed cultural analysis which places particular emphasis on the set designs of three films, whose main theme is the sea; “Sophie’s Choice” by Alan J. Pakula, “The Piano” by Jane Campion and “The Perfect Storm” by Wolfgang Petersen.
As a result, shapes, which always start from an analytical interpretation of 50s volumes, encompass landscapes that work in perfect harmony amid merging male couture tailoring and techno sportswear, with a nod to the sails of yachts, and includes demure, sensual dresses that highlight the waist, emphasizing the concept of a unique type of femininity.
Fabrics suggest a variety of objectives, and include dense, waterproof cottons, severe tweeds, boiled, stretch wools, cashmere and alpaca blends, super-light nylons and crêpe de chine, ending on a high note with elegant silk mikado, comfortable double viscose jersey and luminous lurex.
The colour palette is the rudder which steers the entire collection, creating seascapes in black, ivory, navy blue and cyan crossed though with veiled hints of orange and yellow which enhance a feeling of protection and safety.
Embroidery underlines the theme of the sea and metaphorically represents turbulence, by using tulle and organza embellished with small pearls and black sequins, while a dégradé of mother-of-pearl sequins on fringed georgette, skillfully worked on delicate organza, conjures up the impression of shells.
Fashion Valley Industry allowed the L72 brand to develop its capsule collection which thanks to its support will be presented on both the Italian and international market.  The agencies affiliated with ours network offer creative talents a complete service from yarns to the finished garment.
